In addition to over $2000 in prize money and weekend passes to other events, EBC awards vintage-inspired high-value specially produced metal cups.

We spare no expense to make sure competition winners leave with something memorable made to proudly display for a lifetime! Where some events award key-fobs, medals, shirts or plastic trophies - EBC spends over $700 just in trophies!

Please note: EBC is a competition weekend. We like competitions and competitors. If you are an amateur you are eligible to compete in ANY/ALL division(s). If you are not an amateur, you can compete in ANY/ALL division(s) EXCEPT the Amateur Division. Also, you are able to choose whether you compete as a leader or a follower in ANY division. Same-sex couples are also allowed in ANY division.

The creme de la creme of EBC's Balboa competitions. You have to know your pure-bal and bal-swing to make it in this competition.

Preliminary round will allow mainly pure Balboa, with one Bal-Swing song. This round is based off of a warm-up all-skate, followed by heats and a final all-skate. Call-backs will be notified prior to the finals that same night. Pure-Bal round is judged and ranked.

Final round will be Bal-Swing, and anything goes as far as aerials, lifts, and tricks (80% Balboa/Bal-Swing content required). Final round will consist of an all-skate warm-up, and all-skate, spotlights in a head-to-head "battle-style" fashion to live music, and a final all-skate.

Interaction is encouraged with the couple you are battling and rewarded.

If the judges request another song, it will be added at the end of the round.

Finals are Battle-style. Couples are judged on normal Timing, Technique & Teamwork, however extra credit is awarded for battle skill.

Please bear in mind that this is a Balboa/Bal-Swing competition. Good dancing is appreciated and appropriately scored.

YES!! You may enter both the Open Classic and the Intergalactic Balboa Division, but not with the same partner.

Please note: If you have placed in an EBC-recognized national Balboa couples competition (Jack & Jills do NOT count), you will not be considered an "Amateur" for the purposes of this competition. Some EBC-recognized competitions/events include: EBC (Open Classic or Intergalactic), All-Balboa Weekend (Open or Amateur ACBC), Balboa Rendezvous (Balboa Strictly), Canadian Balboa Championships (Open), All-Balboa Camp Detroit (Open only, not novice/amateur), Camp Hollywood (Pro Balboa Strictly), Boston Tea Party (Balboa Strictly). If you have placed in a Balboa competition outside of those named, please inquire before signing up in this division. EBC Instructors are not permitted to enter this division. Instructors making over 50% of their income from teaching are not permitted to enter this division, exceptions would include ballroom or other dance styles.

In the event of a minimum number of entries not being reached in the Amateur Open Classic or the Open Classic divisions, the two divisions will be combined into the EBC Open Classic.

The Intergalactic Infinity + 1 Balboa Championship Strictly Balboa Division - The penultimate end of Balboa competitions, the "Infinity + 1" is it man, seriously. You can't even go "Infinity + 1 ^ Infinity" because that's how we ended up with "Infinity + 1" since on an infinite scale we looped back. In doing so, we got cool haircuts and free muffins, but that's beside the point.

Anything in the realm of Balboa/Bal-Swing goes...

Prelims will consist of heats.

Finals will consist of an all-skate warm-up and battle spotlights in a "jam-style" fashion for a set number of phrases dedicated to each pair of couples, and a final all-skate. If the judges request another song, it will be added at the end of the round.

YES!! You may enter both the Open Classic and the Intergalactic Balboa Division, but not with the same partner.

The EBC Invitational, is meant to showcase today's Balboa and Bal-Swing stars, both rising and accomplished. If you were not invited this year, please do not take offense as there are limited spaces.

Self-judged, each contestant judges the other contestants.

Consists of a warm-up all-skate, spotlights, and then wraps up with an all-skate. Judged on overall Balboa/Bal-Swing skills, technique, and fun.

You must have a moustache (real or fake) to enter.

The Sunday night, anything goes, balls to the wall, most amazing tap-out and audience judged competition.

In this competition, the "Pro" is defined as someone commonly recognized as a professional dancer, earning more than 50% of their income from dancing or teaching dance. Pro's may also be recognized regional or local instructors and some master level dancers - BUT not all regional/local instructors or master level students are automatically considered the be a "Pro".

"Amateur" level for this competition is loosely defined as a non-Pro dancer. This may range from a Beginner to Master level student, but not someone who earns more than 50% of their income from dance or teaching dance.

There has been a format change from 2011. The competition will be segmented into Am Follows and Am Leaders. Am Followers will compete first against the other Am Followers, followed by Am Leaders competing against the other Am Leaders. There will be separate placements for Am Followers and Am Leaders. Number of heats will be dictated by number of entries. Pros are allowed up to 2 entries. Competition format will consist of a warm-up all-skate (with a switch called during the song for those Pro's with additional partners), followed by either spotlights or battle-style spotlights (2-3 couples) of approximately 1min 30sec. Two all-skates will conclude the competition.
Designed to brush up your competition skills, EBC will host a competition class on Fri afternoon and Sat afternoon. These classes are limited to 10 couples each, and ONLY amateur status dancers are permitted to enter. These are elective classes, and will cost $35 per couple to enter.

Each class will be ran similar to an actual competition. There will be an all-skate, spotlights and another all-skate. After which, each couple will get feedback from the judges based on their performance, as well as suggestions as to what they can do to become more competitive or just work on their dancing.

Time will limited, and in order to maximize feedback time, you should be ready to dance as soon as the class begins.

Please understand that the judges will be instructed to provide feedback based on your performance at the time as well as in comparison to the other couples in the class.

In the event that the appropriate number of participants is not met, the class will be cancelled and refunds will be issued.
